New Year's Eve & Anaheim

We slept in this morning and left Las Vegas for Anaheim, CA at 1:40 p.m. Las Vegas was starting to fill up. When I checked out, the girl at the front desk said they were sold out. The Strip is closed at 6:00 p.m. and the I-15 that runs the length of the strip closes at 5:00 p.m. Las Vegas on New Year's Eve is definitely not a place for young kids so we're glad we left when we did. We didn't encounter much traffic (everything was going the opposite way) so we made good time as far as driving went. The kids handled the long drive well. They slept most of the way, but we made sure to pick up a lot of snacks in Vegas at Trader Joe's and Vegas 808 (at the California Hotel) for the road trip. We made a rest stop at this little placed called Baker. I think population was like 30. It seems to be in the middle of nowhere but I guess it thrives because of the traffic coming through. I asked Brad if he wanted me to do some driving, but he said he was fine. I just sat back through the ride. I did take a couple of cat naps on the way. We drove through the mountain passes and again the snow on the mountains took my breath away--it's just so pretty!

We arrived in Anaheim a little after 5:00 p.m. There was a pretty low & thick fog so we couldn't see Disneyland at first. We joked with the kids that this was their version of New Year's Eve smoke. They are totally missing not be able to pop fireworks. Do I miss it--NO! We're right across the street at the Dessert Inn & Suites. My kids are spoiled...this is actually not as nice as the other places we've stayed but it's large enough for all of us and it's clean so it's all good.

We didn't do much today. When we got here, I washed three loads of clothes at the laundry room on the property. While I washed, Brad took the kids swimming (something they always associate with when at a hotel.) We walked next door to Denny's for dinner after everyone had a bath.

Tomorrow will be a full day--we'll be at Disneyland! YAY! Hopefully, we'll get up early enough to hit the park when it first opens. We saw signs when we came in that the park was sold out so that means long lines!

Anaheim's weather is cool--mid to upper 50's. We're still wearing thermal pants, but we are wearing slippers to walk around. We are now off to bed.

G'night & Happy New Year!

Edited to add: Right at the midnight hour, we heard a loud boom and everyone ran outside to see what was going on. I was sleeping & got up and we realized it was Disney's fireworks. With the thick fog, we couldn't see a thing though! We just heard & felt the booms!
